LEGACY ROUNDTABLE 2008
ACCELERATED SUMMER MATHEMATICS ACADEMY


Program Overview

The Summer Academy planning period will encompass March 1, 2008 through program completion, final analyses and fulfillment of partnership reporting obligations by August 31, 2008. The following activities will occur in their designated months within this timeline.

FEBRUARY

  • Program Coordinator will meet with target school administration
  • Prepare appropriate recruitment information on the program for dissemination to students, parents, district administrators, and on-site personnel by April 1, 2008

MARCH

  • Research and identify agencies and organizations, appropriate contacts therein that provide direct services to target area population of the Legacy Roundtable Accelerated Summer Mathematics Academy; completion by April 1, 2008.
  • Program Coordinator will distribute program application materials to target school liaisons
  • Program staff must be identified, interviewed, and hired in time to attend mandatory curricular training to be conducted at various sites and dates in April and May 2008
  • Informal meetings scheduled by Legacy Roundtable have been finalized and will be used to familiarize UCR, Chaffey, Mt. Sac and Legacy Roundtable with local communities and student characteristics within targeted population.  Sessions to be conducted at various sites.
  • Program staff must be identified, interviewed, and hired in time to attend mandatory curricular training to be conducted by the Connecting Communities Coalition during April and May 2008

APRIL

  • Program Coordinator will provide presentations and program briefings to advisory boards of various target area agencies and organizations to ensure that the Legacy Roundtable Accelerated Summer Mathematics Academy goals and objectives are systematically and consistently shared among all stakeholder groups. This task will be accomplished by May 1, 2008
  • All summer program staff selection completed and program participant rosters finalized prior to program implementation.
  • Summer program pre-testing, CST Reading and Math, and UC/CSU Math Diagnostic Testing Project Geometry Readiness assessment conducted. Results of both assessments should be placed in student program files two-weeks prior to first class.
  • All student files complete.
  • Letters to successful program applicants.
  • Planning for inter-agencies retreat completed and arrangements made for facilities and participation notification have been finalized.
  • Pre-program student/parent orientation and contract session.
  • Development of Individual Education Plans initiated
  • Academic and cultural calendar finalized one week prior to program implementation.
  • Visitation and travel logistical details finalized one month prior to program implementation.

MAY

  • Legacy Roundtable planning retreat scheduled to review all planning and preparation issues related to program implementation.
  • Special mathematics intervention sessions implemented for students identified as in need for additional remedial instruction in order to “successfully navigate, understand, and value” components of summer instruction.
  • Standardized test preparation workshops integrated into curriculum and one specific workshop dedicated to this topic.

JUNE

  • Curricular program and material content has been selected.  Combined use of computer-based and direct instructional based activities have been confirmed and reviewed.  All related classroom materials and supplies have been ordered and confirmed for appropriate delivery times.
  • Planning for College campus, career, and cultural visitations completed, all related permission forms are in program participant files.  Parent volunteer forms completed at 2nd Parent Program Orientation session.
  • Arrangements for residential program component have all been finalized.

JULY

  • Student Program assessments and Program Evaluations are completed prior to end of 6 week program.
  • Non-residential portion of Accelerated Summer Mathematics Academy completed and textbooks are collected.
  • Finalized Individual Education Plans for summer session completed, verified and signed by parent and Legacy representative.
  • Legacy Annual Planning retreat conducted, all partners invited.

AUGUST

  • Residential portion of Accelerated Summer Math Program commences for week.
  • Student Program assessments and Program Evaluations are completed prior to program “closing” ceremony.
  • Conduct closing ceremony with students, parents, program representatives, faculty, et al at conclusion of residential program.
  • Report composed of quantitative results and qualitative assessment instruments are prepared and include pre-mid and post test administrations and pre and post attitudinal survey results from students and caregivers.
  • Overall program analysis completed by Legacy Roundtable representatives.
  • Meet with target school parents and students to discuss program outcomes and make recommendations for continued growth in academic achievement and college preparation.
  • Meet with target school administration.
  • Meet with target area service agencies and community organizations.
  • Meet with UC Riverside, Mt. Sac and Chaffey administration and other personnel for “partnership evaluation” and program review.
  • Prepare final program report.
  • Submit final report to Legacy Roundtable Board of Directors, UCOP and other stakeholders as necessary.
